#BerryAware: World AIDS Day 2012 “Getting to Zero”
As many of you already know today is World AIDS Day and the purpose is to bring people from all around the world together to raise awareness on this epidemic. Since 2011 the World AIDS Day theme has been titled “Getting to Zero” by 2015. Meaning “Zero new HIV infections, Zero discrimination and Zero AIDS related deaths.” The Campaign has been focusing on making sure that the people who are infected have access to treatment.
President Obama released a statement about the issue earlier this week saying,
“On World AIDS Day, more than 30 years after the first cases of this tragic illness were reported, we join the global community once more in standing with the millions of people who live with HIV/AIDS worldwide. We also recommit to preventing the spread of this disease, fighting the stigma associated with infection and ending this pandemic once and for all.”
According to the UNAIDS World AIDS Day report, in the past decade there has been a 50% drop in new HIV infections across 25 countries. To learn more facts about HIV/AIDS and prevention click HERE
